This week is Valentine’s Day. This month is Go Red for heart health awareness month. I take part in the Go Red Challenge every year. I wear my little red dress pin proudly. I spread the word.
Did you know Rosy O’Donnell has heart disease? She had a blockage known as the “widow maker.” I saw it on “The View.” You can read her story by clicking here. Warning: her story scared the begeezers out of me.
Heart disease kills more women every year than all forms of cancer. Whoa! That’s a lot. One woman every minute. That’s humongous.

But what exactly is heart disease? Does high cholesterol count? What if the ratio of HDL (good) cholesterol to LDL (bad) cholesterol is 2:1? And what’s with triglycerides?
What about an anomalous heart beat? Is that heart disease?
If I had by-pass surgery, and no longer have a blockage, do I still have heart disease?
Is it better to lower my cholesterol, even if it’s borderline? What about the side-effects of the medicine? Isn’t that hard on my liver?
This week, I plan to find out the answers to some of these questions. If you have questions, ask away, and I’ll do a little research for you. If you have answers, please add them to the comments below.
