Pause, Breathe, and Take Stock 2017-15

We had some warm weather!  And sunshine!  What could be better?  I’m getting a rhythm into my commute, so I no longer feel rushed and I’m no longer getting on the wrong train.  I had one day where the trained delayed by two hours, but I got to try out a new (Roti) restaurant for dinner, while I waited.  So much more good than bad going on in my life.  Well, really, no bad worth mentioning.

Here’s a few things, in no particular order,  that cause me to pause, wonder, and give thanks:

Another grandchild became a teenager.  Miss K sent me a sketch of the cake she wanted:  Nutella filled, giant K with a rainbow of frosting.  No problem!

Pop-up restaurants and the Fooda app.  Every day I get to try a new restaurant thanks to pop-ups in the atrium at IIT.  Well, maybe not every day.  Lots of days I have enough leftovers for the next day. Mexican, Indian, Korean, one day I had a bowl of mashed potatoes with chipotle chicken and corn with tomatoes and cilantro.  Now that’s comfort food.

WiFi and quiet train rides and my iPad.  So much time to write and read.  And every once in a while I can publish or send something while the train waits at the station to pick up more riders. It’s a bit like a game.  Will the WiFi bars hold until the “send” completes?  Bagged salad mixes complete with add-ons and salad dressing.  That’s been our dinners during the week.  Simple, nutritious, and yes, we’ve both been shedding a few unwelcome pounds.

Cadbury Eggs.  I love them. What more can I say.

Easter dinner at CeCe’s.

Orange-scented hand soap.

A husband who seems to sense when I’m too cold or too warm.  Lately, he’s been adjusting my blankets in the middle of the night.  Sounds a little freaky, when I put it down in print.  I’m amazed that he even thinks about my comfort in the dreamy state of half-wake bathroom excursions.

A clean pond with tadpoles swimming merrily waiting to become frogs.

Thunderstorms that make my world green and yellow and purple and white, and more yellow, and pink.

Easter egg coloring with CoCo.  This year we tried the shaving cream method.

  1. Sounds like you have some lovely things happening in your life and I love the birthday cake. I’m making (or trying to make) a dump truck birthday cake for my grandson who will be 3 at the end of the month. I usually take a moment each day to think of at least one good thing that has happened during the day. I also pleasantly surprised that most days I have more than one.       I took a cake decorating class with my first daughter-in-law almost 18 years ago. The grandkids come up with the most outlandish ideas:beetles, armadillos, dinosaurs, tinker bells, and more. Lucky for me frosting is a forgiving medium, and grandchildren are easy to please.

      You are so right, there’s at least one thing every day worth celebrating.

  2. Happy Spring! Really liked your eggs- what’s the shaving cream method?

      Spray shaving cream on a jelly roll pan. Cut food coloring through roll eggs around in the mixture. Let sit for 15-20 min. Wipe off. Easy as can be. Thanks for reading Jena.
