Photo Friday: Book Club Gifters

This is my last (#5) of my week-long series about kindness gifting this holiday season.  If you’re just tuning in, please click back a few posts and start from the beginning.

My book club meets on the third Thursdays of the month.  We take turns picking out a book and leading the discussion:  mostly fiction, plus at least one non-fiction and one classic each year. That means right before Thanksgiving and then again right before Christmas.

So… no book for December.  Instead it’s party time.  And time for sharing.  Each year we find an organization that is willing to give people books:  a homeless shelter, an abused women’s shelter, a pre-school for at-risk children, etc.

Books don’t take up that much space, and they can transport people to a whole new world.

We bring brand-new books to our dinner party, along with gift bags.  Last year I crocheted hats to add to the gifts, this year, Linda knitted scarves.  It’s so much fun to see who picked out what books.  Sometimes it’s a trip down memory lane, as we recall how much we liked reading or sharing our favorite books.

I like to imagine the creak-crack of new bindings when someone opens the books for the very first time.

This year I almost forgot to snap a few photos.  Here we are enjoying dessert after our pot-luck Christmas dinner.

I almost forgot to take a picture of the books.

Here they are in Dick’s trunk, ready for Santa’s delivery.

book club Christmas 1Thanks for indulging me this week.  I bet you have some ways of kindness gifting and random acts of kindness, too.  Please share them with me.  What a great gift that would be!
