Pause, Breathe, and Take Stock 2017-17

Mother’Day is just around the corner, but for me it’s in the rear view mirror.  wrestler #1, CeCe’s hubby, and their kids came over, and along with Loved-One prepared and wonderful brunch for the mother’s in the group.  Loved-One set the good China out for the three mothers, and everyone else ate on paper plates.  Omelets, sausage, waffles with Nutella and blueberries, mimosa, coffee, and key lime pie.  Queen for a Day, that’s how I felt. Here’s a few more things, in no particular order, that bubbles up joy for me:  Tons of hugs and kisses from grandchildren. Surprise tweets…

Pause,  Breathe, and Take Stock – 2017-16

“Ask and you shall receive.”  That’s only part of the story for me.  so many times I’m just rolling along, not even thinking about wanting more and ShaBam, I’m on the receiving end of wonderful things.  Okay, yes, sometimes I’m asking. This weekend, I had the honor of making my nieces wedding cake.  Yes, of course I was nervous.  Grandchildren are pretty open-minded.  If a cake looks something close to a dinosaur or a volcano, or even Bible Man, a child jumps for joy.  Brides?  Maybe she would be a little pickier.  Jana loved it!  I did work myself into…

Pause, Breathe, and Take Stock 2017-14

Some weeks I have a bit of trouble with the taking stock part of this weekly post.  This week is the pausing and breathing part.  It was a great week for me.  A new job, a wonderful turn-out at an Author Showcase, and a chance to visit Mom.  What could be better? Here, in no particular order, are some more reasons to rejoice: Snow drops blooming around a budding willow tree; My sister-in-law, Cheryl, who gave up part of her birthday to support me at the Author Showcase; Enjoying a Culver’s dinner with Mom & Love-one: walleye, followed by a…

Pause, Breathe, and Take Stock 2017-8

This weekend truly gave me an opportunity to re-set emotionally.  I got away from the news, spent some quality time with Loved-One, in one of my favorite places, Chicago, and answered an unexpected invitation to connect with a nephew.  All good for me.  All a welcomed distraction and relief.  Thanks to a little re-set, the my list of gratitudes comes easily and reminds me of the abundance in my life.  A very sunshiny and WARM weekend.  I even saw someone laying on a blanket in her front yard. Long walks with Love-One. It’s about time we both started moving more.…

Pause, Breathe, and Take Stock 2017-7

I’m mellowing into our new political climate.  Perhaps mellowing is too sedentary a word.  This weekend I began to see some plus sides.  I’m not one to use the phrase, “all things happen for a reason,” or even “it must be God’s plan.”  However, I can see that people can be energized toward good when they see the unsavory side of human nature, and we can do God’s will in the wake of tragedy.  I love our new environment stimulates so many people to demonstrate, boycott, listen, discuss, get involved in local government, etc.

Most of my sadness has abated and I can see sunshine in my days. I’m sure it helps that I literally see more sunshine and the days are getting longer, as well as warmer.

Here’s a few more things, in no particular order, that I am grateful for this Monday morning:

Pause, Breathe, and Take Stock 2017-5

It’s 5:30 am. I wake up to the news every morning. National Public Radio. Time was when I heard a heartwarming story, something interesting and scientific, or just a clear-sailing traffic report. In the last ten days, I start my day with worrying and wondering what’s next. It’s Wedmesday morning, and I failed to start my week counting my blessing.  There are so many in my life, despite the despondency I feel about our government.  And yes, I’m still listening and trying to understand. I’m listening to people, I’m listening to FoxNews, I’m listening to right-wing talk media.   I…

Pause, Breathe, and Take Stock #5

Oh my, the day sped by today.  I’m busy cooking a roast with rice for supper as I begin this post.  Usually, I’m begin right after my Monday morning phone call to Mom.  Of course, she’s one of the blessings that I count every single day, not just on Monday.  How lucky I am to have such a wise a wonderful woman in my life.  And I grew up with her as my guide.  And guess what?  She likes me, too. Here are a few more things, in no particular order, for which I give thanks and gratitude: The first…
