Joyce did yoga every evening on the beach. It was harder than you might think.  The shifing sand underfoot, the undulating horizon, and the occasional gusts challenged even the best yogis’ balance. That was just the start for Joyce.   The tweee of the gulls, the frenzied scurry of sandpiper, and the occasional soft-shell crab, snipped and peeled her concentration.  The own internal chatter refused to quiet: unending to-do lists, what-if, and when-is, snagged her heart center and toppled her tree pose. Scout and Meowgi waited all day for Goldy, their only sister, to return.  “She’s been gone a long time,” Scout moped.  Scout knew Meowgi spent most nights outside, hunting.  As for Scout, he was only allowed into the fenced yard.  Meowgi slinked under the fence, or on warm nights jumped up and sat on the fence post crooning at a full moon.  Scout could do neither of these things, so he contented himself with what he freedom he had, and looked forward to long walk with Mother.  He tolerated the…

Photo Friday: A weed by any other name…

My cover designer, Chad Green, asked me to take some photos of Queen Anne’s Lace.  The setting is mid-Michigan, so .  Chad wanted a better view of the underside for his design. I got to appreciate some of the nuances and beauty of the Queen.       There’s something so hopeful about a weed called Queen Anne’s Lace.  Don’t you think? Photo Friday: Squeals of Delight

I shot these photos at our local Concert in the Park.  The local community band played patriotic songs mixed with movie themes.
