Up, Up, and Away

The world’s a nicer place in my beautiful balloon
It wears a nicer face in my beautiful balloon
We can sing a song and sail along the silver sky

There’s something about hot air balloons that makes my heart soar. Perhaps it’s the colors. Perhaps it’s the quiet.  Perhaps it’s the simplicity and pace.

One of the best places to see them is the home of Milk Days, Harvard, IL. Click here to find out more and start planning for next year. It’s only tiny Harvard’s second year on Balloon Festivities and already tens of thousands of visitors traveled to their Milky Way Park to join the fun.

The best part is the Glow.  Each night, weather permitting, the balloons coordinate the lighting of their flames to music.  Magnificent! I didn’t get a photo of that, although, here’s a few from the Sunrise Launch I saw.

Doesn’t the idea of floating over the land and sea as the sun rises and sets just lift your heart?

  1. Oh, that looks wonderful!

I nearly went for a balloon ride to celebrate a friend’s birthday last Fall but then it was too windy. I was actually sort of nervous about it but I suspect it would be the same kind of nerves I get when I’m getting ready to paddle rough water – I’m scared to death until I’m actually in it, and then I’m so happy!

    The “Glow” sounds beautiful!

I did go on a ride in the early spring at sunrise. It was as wonderful as I thought it would be. Loved-One’s memory of the event was not as glowing as mine. His bald head got very hot each time the pilot pulled rope that bursts the flame. Hats or hair necessary!
